Sentences
Sentence expresses a complete thought or meaning. A sentence is a basic unit for organizing messages. It expresses a statement, a command, a request, a question, a wish or sudden feelings. It is the largest structural unit that stands on its own. A sentence is also called a group of words with a subject and a predicate. Examples:
She talks. (‘She’ - a subject and ‘talks’- a predicate)
Subject must be identified that agrees with verb in a sentence
He is easy to please. He pleases easily.
a. The lady just coming from the meeting with her friends talks to me.
b. The Manager and the Supervisor address the meeting.
Two essential parts (Elements) of a sentence are the subject and the predicate such:
The children are playing on the ground. ( Sub + Predicate)
Sentence Elements

The Subject
The subject is an element of the sentence that tells who or what is being discussed ( doer of the action). A subject can be of three types: complete, simple and compound.
A. The Complete Subject includes all the words related to the subject such as:
a. Bina, a 22-year-old girl works in the reception depart.
b. The finance department completed the salary sheet.
B. The Simple Subject: It is the main noun or pronoun in complete subject and names ‘who’ or ‘what’ is performing the action or receiving action in a sentence.
a. The beautiful vase fell from the table. ( the vase names what fell)
b. The rose garden was named by the local club. ( action of naming)
C. The Compound Subject https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxIVnX2v51A is formed by joining two or more simple subjects using coordinate conjunction such as and, or, nor, yet, for etc. Examples:
a. The doctor and her staff work in a clinic.
b. The beautiful but vain girls were invited to the ceremony.
The Predicate
The Predicate (https://youtu.be/LVp7m-ZJ7YU ) is another element in a sentence. It is a part of a sentence that tells something about the complete subject. It consists of a verb with or without phrases or words that modify a verb. A predicate can be a complete, simple or compound predicate.
A. The Complete Predicate consists of a verb and all directly related to it including modifiers and objects.
a. Dogs eat slowly. ( verb and word directly related to it)
b. The document was sent by overnight express. (Predicate )
B. The Simple Predicate is the main verb in the complete predicate. A verb expresses action or state-of-being such as:
a. The team left quickly. ( action)
b. The package was sent by overnight express. ( action )
c. She is an engineer at that site. ( state-of-being)
C. The Compound Predicate (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVp7m-ZJ7YU&t=42s ) is formed with two (or more) simple predicates joining with coordinating conjunction such as and, or, but, nor, yet etc. Examples:
a. The salesman sells daily but audits monthly.
b. The Manager ate dinner and went to the office.
c. An earthquake destroyed or left uninhabitable houses in Barpark.
