A.   Notice the use of ‘used to’ in the following text.

I was a young girl in the 1960s. My friends and I used to do a lot of things that shocked our parents. We used to do things our mothers never did. We used to cut our hair, we used to wear short skirts. We used to sing songs, but did not use to dance. 

Now, rewrite the following sentences using ‘used to’. You can make an affirmative/ negative statement or a question.

a.      I/live in a flat when I was a child.

I used to live in a flat when I was a child.

b.     She/love eating chocolate but now she hates it.

B.    Write a short paragraph describing your past habits.

When I was in primary school, there used to be a long tiffin time. I used to come home to eat my tiffin. My mother often used to make fresh food for me. My teachers used to scold and beat me using a cane when I did not complete my home assignments. I used to play ball made of plastic and socks with my friends in the school grounds. After returning from school, I used to hunt birds using a catapult. I also used to fish in the pond and river during the holidays. When I was in secondary school, I used to go to school on foot. There was no watch at my home at the time, so I used to observe the shadow of the coconut tree to know the time for school.
