A. Study the examples.
a. A couple bought a couple of tickets for their honeymoon.
b. The car stopped suddenly.
c. All the children seem satisfied with their exam results.
Here bought is a transitive verb, stopped an intransitive verb, and seem a linking verb.
B. What is the difference among transitive, intransitive, and linking verbs? Give examples of each.
A transitive verb is used with an object: a noun, phrase, or pronoun that refers to the person or thing that is affected by the action of the verb.
· I go to Birjung. (Intransitive)
· I buy a pen. (Transitive)
An intransitive verb is defined as a verb that does not take a direct object. That means no word in the sentence tells who or what received the action of the verb.
All forms of be verbs are linking verbs. For example: are, am, is, were, was, etc. Besides, verbs that have to do with the five senses are linking verbs: feel, look, smell, sound, and taste.
