A.   Change the following sentences with passive voice using being or having.

a.      Pooja hates people shouting at her in the street.

c.      Our class teacher detests students flattering her.

Note: "Being" is used when the subject is undergoing an action or experiencing a state. It typically follows passive constructions or describes a state of being. And "Having" is used when the subject possesses or experiences something. It can indicate possession, experiences, or undergoing a process.

 

B.    Change the following sentences into active voice.

a.      A lot of books are stored online by various sites.

Various sites store a lot of books online.

b.     Computers are repaired with a warranty here.

They repair computers with a warranty here.

c.      Chinese is rarely spoken in our community.

People rarely speak Chinese in our community.

A.   Imagine you are the head teacher of a school and your school has a vacancy for the post of Secondary Level English teacher. Write an advertisement for the post mentioning the required academic qualification, experience, deadline, and other necessary information.

Tips for Paraphrasing Text

a.      Understand the Original Text: Read the text thoroughly to grasp the meaning. Ensure you understand the key points and the overall message.

b.     Use Synonyms: Replace words and phrases with synonyms where appropriate. Be careful not to change the meaning of the text.

c.      Change the Structure: Alter the sentence structure. This can include changing the order of information, breaking long sentences into shorter ones, or combining short sentences into a longer one.

f.       Simplify or Elaborate: Depending on the context, you can either simplify the text or elaborate on certain points to make the meaning clearer.

g.     Avoid Overuse of Synonyms: While synonyms are useful, avoid changing too many words with synonyms as it might alter the meaning or make the text less clear.

h.     Keep Key Terms: Retain essential terms and technical jargon that are crucial to the meaning of the text.

i.       Check Your Work: Compare the paraphrased text with the original to ensure that the meaning is preserved and that it is sufficiently different to avoid plagiarism.

j.       Practice Regularly: Paraphrasing is a skill that improves with practice. Regularly practice with different texts to become more proficient.
