May: Uses: Permission, possibility, wish.

  • Example: "You may leave early today."
  • Reason: Giving permission.

Might: Uses: Possibility (less certain than "may"), suggestion.

  • Example: "It might rain tomorrow."
  • Reason: Indicating a less certain possibility.

Can: Uses: Ability, permission, possibility.

  • Example: "She can swim very well."
  • Reason: Indicating ability.

Could: Uses: Past ability, polite request, possibility.

  • Example: "Could you help me with this?"
  • Reason: Making a polite request.

Will: Uses: Future intention, promise, spontaneous decision.

  • Example: "I will call you tomorrow."
  • Reason: Indicating a future action.

Would: Uses: Polite request, hypothetical situation, past habit.

  • Example: "Would you like some coffee?"
  • Reason: Making a polite offer.

Shall: Uses: Future action (formal), suggestion, offer.

  • Example: "Shall we go for a walk?"
  • Reason: Making a suggestion.

Should: Uses: Advice, obligation, expectation.

  • Example: "You should study for the exam."
  • Reason: Giving advice.

Must: Uses: Obligation, necessity, strong recommendation.

  • Example: "You must wear a seatbelt."
  • Reason: Indicating necessity or obligation.

I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to express my sincere apologies for not being able to attend your brother's wedding. Due to an urgent family matter, I was unable to be there to celebrate this joyous occasion with you and your family.

I understand how important this event was and deeply regret missing it. Please convey my best wishes and congratulations to your brother and the entire family. I hope the wedding was beautiful and that everyone will have a wonderful time.

Once again, I am truly sorry for my absence. I look forward to catching up with you soon and hearing all about the wedding.
