PM Oli, Indian PM Modi Jointly Inaugurate

Cross-Border Petroleum Pipeline

RSS

Kathmandu, Sept 10: The much-awaited interstate petroleum pipeline project has been inaugurated today. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi jointly inaugurated the project from their respective countries.

A programme was organised at Singh Durbar for the PM Oli and at Hyderabad House for Indian PM Modi to switch on the project together as the inauguration via video conference. With the inauguration, petroleum product has arrived in Amlekhgunj, Nepal from India's Motihari. The pipeline is the first cross-border project in South Asia. For the first phase, diesel is brought and petrol and kerosene later. The AmlekhgunjMotihari stretch is 69.2 km long.

The pipeline supplies nearly 4,000 kl of petroleum product every day, the project said. With the cross-border project in place, more than Rs 2 billion has been saved, which was earlier spent on its transportation.

Similarly, as the import cost declined, the price of the petroleum products has been slashed by Nepal Oil Corporation. The NOC cut the price of diesel, petrol and kerosene by Rs 2 per litre. Of the total diesel consumed in the country, 70 per cent is supplied from Amlekhgunj. A high-level technical team, including the NOC Executive Director, is at Amlekhgung in the course of the project inauguration. The NOC and Indian Oil Corporation had agreed in 2004 to construct the interstate pipeline project. It was, however, stalled for a decade for various reasons.

In August 2015, then Minister for Commerce and Supply, Sunil Bahadur Thapa, and his Indian counterpart, Dharmendra Pradhan, had signed for the construction of the project. Both Nepal and India had a special interest on completion of the project. Similarly, PM Oli and the Indian PM Modi had jointly laid the foundation stone for the pipeline in New Delhi during Oli's visit to India. The project cost is 2.75 billion Indian currencies.

The programme organised to inaugurate the project at Singha Durbar was attended by Cabinet members, secretaries of various ministries and high-level officials of the government.

Mostly Demanded Festival of Hindu Married Women: Teej

RSS

Simara, 10 Shrawan: Teej is a small red insect that comes out of the soil during the rainy season, from which Teej got its name. That is why Teej is celebrated in red.

Teej is celebrated on the 3rd day of Bhadra Sukla Paksha (according to the Nepali lunar calendar). It generally falls in late August or early September. Teej is traditionally dedicated to the Goddess Parvati,   remembering her union with Lord Shiva. It is a three-day-long celebration that combines splendid feasts as well as rigid fasting.

On the first day of Teej, they make a hearty meal called ‘dar’and prepare tasty sweets. Good friends gather together with food and drinks, perform traditional dances and sing devotional songs. Those celebrations continue till midnight. They eat that dar before cockcrow in the early morning.

On the second day, after taking a bath, women wear gold and silver jewellery and dress in their red wedding saris. Then they head in groups to Shiva temples nearby and offer flowers and fruits to Lord Shiva. The whole day, they fast, sing and dance that reflect their way of life. Pious women believe that it'll bring good fortune for their husbands. The third day is known as Rishi Panchami. After paying homage to seven saints, Nepali women would bathe with red mud found on the roots of the sacred datiwan bush, along with its leaves.

Teej is a festival celebrated by Nepali women, for the long life of her husband and a long and firm relationship between them until the death of this life and all the lives to come. Teej is observed for marital happiness, the well-being of the spouse and children and the purification of one's own body and soul. Teej is the most famous festival among Nepali women.

The folk music and dances add more flavour to the traditional values of Teej. It is fascinating to see women, in “Red” dancing and singing on the street, going to the temple in a holy and fasting mood. Teej is also called Hari Talika Teej. This festival is celebrated by Nepali Hindu women all across the world. Teej also welcomes and celebrates the arrival of the monsoon after summer heat.
