Class 9 English Unit 10: Reading I: A Message from Another Planet

Unit 10: The Earth and Space

Getting Started (9 Hours)

Let the students discuss the earth and space based on the picture given in the textbook.

Picture 1 is related to an astronaut who seems to be leaving Earth.  Astronauts live and work in space, conducting experiments to expand our knowledge of the cosmos. They wear special space suits to protect themselves from extreme temperatures and the lack of air in space. Astronauts often spend months aboard the International Space Station, orbiting Earth at a speed of 28,000 km/h.

Picture 2 is the planet Saturn. Saturn, the second-largest planet in our solar system, is famous for its magnificent rings made of ice and rock. Its atmosphere is composed mainly of hydrogen and helium, creating beautiful bands and storms visible from space. Despite being a gas giant, Saturn is so light that it could float in water if there were a large enough ocean.

Picture 3 is a rocket probably just launched as it is crossing the clouds. Rockets use controlled explosions to generate thrust, allowing them to break free of Earth's gravity and enter space. They play a vital role in space exploration, enabling the launch of satellites, probes, and manned spacecraft. In recent years, innovations like reusable rockets have made space travel more affordable and sustainable.

Picture 4 looks like a UFO. UFOs are mysterious objects in the sky that cannot be immediately identified as aircraft or natural phenomena. They have been the subject of speculation, with some associating them with aliens, while others seek scientific explanations. Governments and scientists continue to investigate UFO sightings to determine their origins and credibility.
