The Bat the Birds, and the Beasts

Once upon a time, a great conflict arose between the birds and the beasts. Two mighty armies gathered, preparing for a fierce battle. Among them was the bat, who refused to join either side. The birds approached the bat and asked, "Will you not fight with us?" The bat replied, "I am a beast. I belong with them." The beasts then came and requested the bat's assistance, but he answered, "I am a bird. I should fight with them."

Eventually, peace was declared, and there was no battle. Peace returned, and both birds and beasts rejoiced. Seeing this, the bat decided to join the celebrations. However, when he tried to mix with the birds, they turned against him, saying, "You claimed to be a beast. You cannot celebrate with us!" The beasts echoed the sentiment, "You said you were a bird. You are not welcome here!" Both sides threatened to tear the bat into pieces. Frightened, the bat flew away to save his life, realizing that by trying to belong to both sides, he had earned the trust of neither.

Moral: Those who cannot decide where they belong often find themselves unwelcome everywhere.

B.    Write a short story that begins with the sentence 'Once warm summer afternoon, an old owl was dozing when a grasshopper disturbed it with a very raspy song.'

Diplomacy and Kindness

Once warm summer afternoon, an old owl was dozing when a grasshopper disturbed it with a very raspy song. The owl, known for its wisdom, opened one eye and asked, "Could you keep it down? Some of us are trying to rest." The grasshopper chirped boldly, "I have just as much right to sing as you do to sleep!"

The owl sighed and decided on a different approach. "You sing well," the owl said, "but your song would sound even better in the meadow where other grasshoppers gather. The sound quality is much better there." The grasshopper paused, then sprang away to the meadow, flattered by the owl's suggestion. As it joined the chorus of other grasshoppers, the owl finally enjoyed a peaceful nap.

Moral: Kind words can often achieve what anger cannot.
